Sutton’s century as Guest just misses in under 14 cricket grand final

Opener John Sutton’s 102 not out led the way for Charlestown Junior under 14 Division 1 team in its grand final against Valentine Elebana Blue. Charlestown compiled 7/246 in its 50 overs thanks also to a solid contribution from Jackson Mace (32) and 64 extras! When Valentine Eleebana Blue batted, opener and run machine Liam Guest looked in line for a century but was caught on 99. Guest had made a number of high scores during the season including 113 and 107 both not out. Despite Kurt Hodson’s 36 and Courtney Moulton’s 33, no other Valentine batsman could reach double figures and the team was all out for 212 to lose the game. Liam Gray and Riley Coulson both took two wickets for Charlestown.

In the 16/17 Division 1 grand final Southern Lakes Gold batted first against Southern Lakes Green and were dismissed for 152. Best of the batsmen for the Golds were Anthony Young (47) Fletcher Price (29) and Nathaniel Cavaliere (25). For the Green team, Sebastian Howe dominated the bowling taking 7 for 31 off ten overs.   However the Green team could not get going in its innings and with the top score being 17 extras, the team could only manage 80 before being dismissed. For the Golds the wickets were shared with Aaron Halls, Matthew Meares and Doran Taylor taking two wickets each.

In the 15/16 Division 1 grand final Wallsend (6/124) defeated Belmont Gold (all out 120).
Belmont Gold had won the toss and batted first with Jonty Major (45) and Nicholas Landrigan (21) being the major contributors to the team’s score of 120. For Wallsend Nathan Sneddon took 4/32 and Jason McGuire 3/14. In Wallsend’s winning innings wicketkeeper and opener Dru Tonks top scored with 46 not out and was well supported by captain Cameron Roxby before he was run out for 29. Best of Belmont Gold’s bowlers was captain Thomas Beesley who took 2/15.
